XMUM welcomes Chinese New Year celebration

SEPANG: Students in XMUM welcomed an advanced Chinese New Year celebration at the corridor in B1 on 30th of January.
A series of performances were prepared by the committee for the visitors. Visitors were expected to dress in red shirt or Cheong Sam.
Named “Prosperous welcome to the year of pig”, the event is organized by a group of foundation students.
The celebration started at 6.30 p.m., with an opening performance of traditional lion dance followed by singing.
The majority of the audience were foundation students due to degree students are having their semester break.
The emcee of the event, Haeshwana said that the atmosphere was quite good. “It’s my first time being an emcee and I’d be lying if I say I’m not nervous.”
“The Chinese tradition is interesting for me because I am familiar with Malaysian culture,” she added.
There was lucky draw session while free traditional foods were provided. Blowing Blossom Competition was the highlight of the event.
A mascot of God of Wealth was walking around while giving out new year scrolls.

“The event is very exciting and the activities are very fun,” commented Chai Wei, a local student. “The games are also challenging.”
A group of international students from Egypt and Turkmenistan were dressed in red for their very first experience with Chinese New Year.
“The celebration is interesting to me because I really like the Chinese culture,” said Ahmed, a foundation student from Egypt. Ahmed and his friends spent some time to learn how to use chopsticks during the celebration.
When asked about whether they will join any similar events in the future, Abdel Rahman said, “We will definitely come again.”
Although there were lesser attendees, the event planner, Tan hoped that everyone had fun.
“We hope you guys to join us. Thanks to the ECA for giving us the opportunity.” He added.
The celebration ended approximately at 10p.m.
